Driving At Work
Driving at Work or Work Related Road Safety includes all journeys on the public road conducted by an employee driving for work on behalf of their employer, regardless of the ownership of the vehicle the employee is using.
A company or organisation has a legal and moral duty of care to ensure the health, safety and welfare of its employees and other third parties affected by the work activities including driving.
Driving at Work is a high risk agenda issue with the enforcing authorities and organisations in the UK as well as many other countries around the world. In 2003 the HSE redefined the workplace to include any vehicle used whilst on business and since then has been increasingly propelled by the research and evidence that “at work” drivers are involved in a disproportionate number of serious Road Traffic Incidents.
It is vital for organisations to have an auditable driving at work risk management processes in place to manage driving at work effectively, to safeguard drivers and others whilst conducting driving for the business.
